It's Summer Holidays

This beautiful nativity scene was given to us by Tony’s Grandma, Kate. She passed away a few years ago. Everyone who sees it in our house thinks that it looks quite expensive, but if I remember rightly she bought it from the local supermarket (Ralphs) for about $30 (I think). Anyway, we’re glad to have it and it really does look lovely in our hallway.

Boy, I've really been 'blogging' lately! I have three friends who keep blogs and they have been really good at getting posts out every couple of days too - there's so much to blog at this time of the year. Despite how busy all mum’s seem to be at this time of the year we still find time to do the important things...record the memories (even if it is at 11pm!)

Friday was the end of the school year for Hayden. It’s summer break and 6 weeks holiday!! On Thursday Hayden received his report card, found out who his new teacher would be for next year and what kids would be in his class. The children also got to spend an hour visiting their new classroom and getting to know their new teacher - that way they don’t have to ‘fret’ on their first day back at school in February and it makes them a lot more settled for a good start at the beginning of the year.

School finished at 12:30. To finish the year off all the children (500 of them) sat in the middle of the school hall with all the teachers sitting on chairs in a circle around them. The boys did the haka and then the whole school sang their Pinehill (school song) about believing in their dreams and following the pinehill way. It was moving and I think just about everyone had lumps in their throats. (Not all the boys did the haka, only the ones who wanted to). I can’t wait for Hayden to do that.

During this last week of school Hayden’s age group put on a play called ‘Whoopsy Daisy Angel’. The children performed beautifully and they all looked so special dressed in white and wearing shepherds clothes. Most of them were angels wearing white gowns, wings and halo's and a few of the boys were shepherds. Hayden was one of the shepherds, but unfortunately I didn’t get his photo. I was about the only parent who forgot my camera. There must have been over 100 parents and nearly all of them stood to watch the play with cameras and video camera’s. I have to say that although the children were very adorable, it was worse than the paparazzi trying to take photo’s of a celebrity!!!! My friend Julia and one of the teachers sent me these photo's taken during the play. It was as beautiful as it looks:

On Thursday night we had the end of year prizegiving. The most exciting thing about prizegiving is that the school gets to find out what ‘House’ group has won the most points for the year (if you’re not familiar, watch Harry Potter!!) Hayden’s house group ‘Rakino’ won for the second year in a row. The children all cheer and shout with excitement over who won, just like on Harry Potter. There are four house groups at Hayden’s school and they are all named after an island. Each house group has children ranging from 5-10 years with one 10yr old chosen as their leader. Ashton and Noah will automatically go into the Rakino house group with Hayden when they start school. A few bad photos taken at Prizegiving:

We said a very sad goodbye to our little family friend Sehyeon yesterday. She hugged Noah over and over. Ashton is still telling us that when he starts school at the end of next year Sehyeon will be able to take care of him and I don’t have the heart to explain to him that he’ll probably never see her again. I’m hoping the schools in Korea will be really bad so that they’ll move back to NZ (but not likely).

The shepherds costumes were really well done too.

That is sad about Seyhoun. Hope they will write letters and send photos? Maybe she will as she is a bit older .. its so cute how Ashton's best friend is an older girl =); December 22, 2008 at 1:02 PM
