Ashton turns 4!

This post is over a month late, but better late than never!

Ashton turned 4 years old on November 15th and this post is dedicated just to him.

Ashton had anxiously been waiting for his big day for months and months. Ever since Hayden's birthday in June we had repeatedly been asked, "When's my birthday coming?"

Even though Ashton's birthday is well over, he seems to think he will be having another one very soon. When I pick him up from kindy he still shows me who his friends are and announces that they can come to his birthday party!

Instead of having a cake for Ashton's birthday we decided to let the children make their own ice-cream sundays. We found some big, colourful ice-cream sunday cups, bought a bunch of ice-cream scoops, two tubs of ice-cream and some grapes and sprinkles to decorate the top. Nana made green, red, yellow and orange jelly/jello.

Ashton invited 6 friends: his best friend Sehyeon from our old apartment, his Russian friend Michael and four good friends from kindy (Adam, John, Gabby and Shaurev). He was most excited about Michael coming since Michael had been in Russia for the past 5 months, but on the morning of the party Michael ended up in hospital and was too sick to come.

It was funny to have a 'little girl' at the party amongst a whole group of boys. Gabby definitely acted like a girl bursting into tears several times over not getting the ball, not getting a present, not getting to sit where she wanted, not getting enough jelly, etc. And all the little boys were the same as Ashton; too busy playing and having a good time to go to the toilet that they 'held themselves' until they were dragged to the toilet by an adult!

During Ashton's party we played pass the parcel (a traditional kiwi game where a present for each child is wrapped in a layer of newspaper. The children pass the parcel around in a circle until the music stops and then they get to unwrap a layer). We blew bubbles, hit the piñata, played catch with the basketball and took turns kicking the ball into the soccor net.

Ashton got given three sets of hot wheel tracks for his birthday. He was a happy boy to get a 'hot wheel set' from his Nana- something that would make his cars go fast (and a present he had been wanting for many weeks).

His Grandpa and Grandma gave him $20 with a savings bond for college.

Anonymous said...: I love the pass the parcel game. I've never heard of that but it sounds fun for the kids. I think I will use that ideas at Amanda's class Christmas party tomorrow!

Hayden: "I don't want to finish my pizza, it's got blood all over it."

Hayden: "Ashton hit me in the heart."

Hayden learns the planets at Preschool: Mercury, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Penus!
