Good & Bad Days

This week has been an 'up and down' parenting week. On Tuesday the boys were so well behaved, almost perfect (sharing, listening, obeying and all playing together nicely) that I was completely ready for baby no# 4. But on Thursday all three turned into monsters, and I was ready to hang 'FOR SALE' signs around their necks!!! Ashton was hyper and noisy, and Noah cried all day and just begged to be held. Hayden wasn't terribly co-operative either, so it was nice when bed time finally came around! Maybe it was due to their late night on Wednesday, or most likely it was just kids being kids. On Wednesday we took Mum and Peter to the airport about 9pm to see them off on their 5 week holiday to England, Scotland and Wales. Lucky things!! By the time we got home it was after 10pm and the boys were snoring their heads off. We couldn't even wake them for an ice-cream Sunday from McDonalds!

I've been painting a bird bath this week to go by our front door. The couple who use to live here also had a bird bath by the door. The lady, Veronica,
knows how to do really pretty mosiac tiles in the basin of the bath and I admired hers several times when the water in the bath was reflecting off the mosiac. Since Tony and I were flexible about Veronica and her husband moving out once we bought the house from them, she offered to do the mosiac for me for free, and all I have to do is paint the bath before I give it to her. She's says she doesn't do it to make money because it's too time consuming doing all the glueing and grouting, but I am grateful she is doing me one, and I'm looking forward to the finished result!

One of our favourite things to do as a family - at least over Winter when we are stuck in doors all the time and there is no where to go - is to dance together. We like to have our family dance sessions at night time as the boys like to have it dark so they can turn all the lights off. They love the music up loud with the surround system on. We usually dance to High School Musical, but on Tuesday night we had fun dancing to John Travolta-Saturday Night Fever. Noah likes to join in too, but he likes it most when Tony is holding him. Hayden likes to dance with me by holding my hand and twirling me around - even giving me a kiss every now and then. Ashton does his own thing, and he is the best dancer of us all. When he's not jumping around and he is really trying to dance he does some pretty impressive moves. He puts High School Musical on frequently to dance by himself during the day. We're glad we have found something the boys like so much. It's great family bonding, it gets rid of the boys energy, it's better for us than just sitting on the couch...and most of all it keeps us warm!!! Oh, and most of all, as Tony would say, it's FREE!!

Ashton went up a level in his swimming class this week!!!! He's been in the same class since February, so it's a big achievement for him. He's come a long way since February as when he first started swimming lessons he would cling to the teacher in the water like a koala bear and not let go of her. He still gets terrified about doing a back float and whenever the teacher tries to let go of him Ashton pinches her. He pinched her so hard on Thursday that she shouted out 'Ow' for us all to hear and had a big red mark on her arm. Anyway, she is convinced Ashton will progress more by going up a class and by watching kids who are more confident.

Hayden's school celebrated the opening of the Olympics this week by having Mufti Day on Friday (the children got to wear their own clothes instead of their school uniform). The had to wear colours of their nation. The majority of the kids were wearing black and white or silver for NZ (their All Black rugby jerseys) and a few had on green and yellow for Australia. Hayden wanted to wear the same as his friends, but since he doesn't have black and white clothing he went off to school in red, white and blue; representing where he was born - the good ol' USA! He wasn't too happy about it and said he wasn't going to tell his friends that his colours were for America. I don't know why, but I don't think he wanted to feel like the odd one out. Once he got to school, however, it didn't phase him and he had a lot of fun.

This is so cool! I've never actually had a good look at anyone's blogspot. Its a great journal to keep everyone up to date about you and your family isn't it?

Its really neat to read about the boys and your family - nice to see you can stop and take time to luagh with and take photos of htem on those very rushed, stressful weekday ams too!

We used to dance with hte boys after dinner too but thought it hyped them up too much - we must do it a bit earlier tho as it is alot of fun isn't it?? We've not even seen High School Musical yet, but Gian just got it out today (II) so that shld be fun.

Gian thinks its very cool that Hayden is American/from there and sometimes insists on pronouncing words like Hayden instead of the Kiwi way. He is a little mixed up anyway - cos of Chris's accent - but it makes it/him a bit more interesting I guess!

For example, Gian asks me: How do you say you wnat to go to the toilet in American? Answer (talks like Hayden) "I want to go potty"!
