I think one has to experience a NZ winter to truly appreciate the spring and summer months. It truly is exciting and uplifting to have sunny days, with leaves on the trees and flowers blooming.
This is my favourite tree on our driveway. The leaves are such a bright green:
The trees at the front of our house form this neat arch way as we drive into our garage.
And our driveway has been blooming this beautiful flower for the past few weeks.
Summer in NZ is VERY beautiful and lots of fun. It's the reason most people live here.... Blooming pohutakawa trees, picnics and fish 'n' chips on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, swimming in the ocean, Santa in shorts and jandals (flip flops), camping by beahes or amongst bush and rolling hills, hokey pokey ice-creams from the diary, pavlova and strawberries, bush walks, farmers markets, no school for 7 weeks.....
Our summer begins with our first camping trip to Tawharanui Regional Park.
There are 6 things I love about camping:
1. It brings you closer to your kids. You are together all the time and are all doing the same thing day and night. It really makes you feel connected to them in a special way.
2. There is no computer, no TV and no kitchen!!!!!!!!!!!!
3. It makes you feel connected to nature and the beauty God has provided for us. It makes you feel connected to what the world is really about as opposed to driving, shopping, spending, technology, etc
4. It forces you to go to bed early. Once it gets dark, it's pitch black and there is nothing else to do but go to sleep.
5. Coming out of your tent at 3am, breathing fresh, clean, crisp sea air and looking up at the sky to see hundreds of beautiful stars.
6. Spending the day under a beautiful pohutakawa tree while the boys happily swim in the ocean or spend hours playing in the sand and tidepools. The best relaxation in the world and very happy content boys.
