We got two guinea pigs, both girls and both a year old. The dark brown one named Gizmo belongs to Hayden. The light brown guinea pig belongs to Ashton and he has named him Pluto (a much better choice than his initial name of Chewbacca from Star Wars!).

About a month ago we went to dinner at a friends house. Our friend, Daniel, who is also our hometeacher, had guinea pigs and our boys loved holding and playing with them. A couple of weeks later I talked to Daniel about buying our own guinea pigs and he offered to lend us a cage. Then at church last Sunday when I told him we wanted the cage he surprised us by saying his kids didn’t want their guinea pigs anymore because they had a puppy.
Our guinea pigs are so cute!!! Who would of thought guinea pigs could be cute, but they really are! For the first couple of days we had them, they seemed terrified of being in such a noisy house, but a few days later and they seem calm and settled. We have them inside at the moment until we get their outdoor hutch.

The boys are still learning how to pick them up and hold them, but they are continuously opening their cage to pat them. Hayden wakes up early every morning asking if he can go downstairs to see Gizmo. As soon as he gets home from school he begs to hold her. Yesterday afternoon when I came down the stairs Hayden was laying on the floor next to their cage eating his afternoon tea so he could watch them at the same time. Hayden asked me when their birthday was and if we could have a party for them with some friends over!

Ashton is extremely gentle and caring towards them and is always concerned if they've had enough to eat. He continuously sneaks to the fridge and gets some silverbeet for them about 10 times a day.

Noah pokes and prodes them and scares the living daylights out of them (hence, he is usually told off and removed from their cage). It's a process teaching him to be quiet and gentle with them, but he is improving day by day.
We love our little guinea pigs and the boys have been telling everyone that we have 7members in our family now.
