Miyuki - More Blessings Than One

Above is a photo of Ashton cutting paper into little squares. He literally spent half of the weekend cutting with scissors! It is one of his favourite things to do as he pretends to make a cake or soup in one of our tuppaware containers from the kitchen. Ashton had Miyuki (our home-stay student) cutting most of the weekend too, and every time she’d had enough and wanted to rest, Ashton convinced her to keep cutting.

Below is a photo of Miyuki. She has been staying with us for a month now and is paying us $200 a week to stay in our spare room so she can experience living with a family who speaks English. We had been trying to think of ways to increase our income and Miyuki has been the perfect answer for us! Miyuki is from Japan and is 25 years old. She goes to school M-F to learn English.

We love having Miyuki stay with us. She’s extremely polite, very respectful and quiet, eats absolutely anything I feed her, keeps all the house rules, helps me vacuum and tidy up toys and she spends lots of time playing with the boys. Noah calls her ‘Yoki’ and is always waving and saying hi to her or asking her to push him around in his toy car…”push me Yoki, push me Yoki”! Ashton and Noah always get excited about her coming home from school because she spends so much time on the floor playing with them. Hayden even told me a couple of weeks ago that he wished Miyuki was his other Mummy!! She has become more than just a home-stay student to us, she has become part of our family. In the weekends she stays around the house and does whatever we are doing (although she always opts out of church probably because Primary overwhelmed her!) The only things that are required on my part are to make her lunch in the mornings, make her dinner in the evenings and do her washing. She was only meant to stay with us for a month and then get a flat with friends, but when I told her she was welcome to keep staying with us she seemed very happy saying thank you more than once. Thank goodness, because little does she know I probably would have begged her to stay!!

Hayden: "I don't want to finish my pizza, it's got blood all over it."

Hayden: "Ashton hit me in the heart."

Hayden learns the planets at Preschool: Mercury, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Penus!

Hayden (shopping with me and whining): "My brain hurts forever because you haven't buyed me anything."
