This week...

I mentioned in my post 'We're back' that while we were on holiday in Kona we went shopping at Costco. Costco is a huge warehouse where you can buy everything in bulk and everything comes in extra big sizes and packets. You usually end up with double or triple of everything you need. For example, we needed bandaids (plasters as we call them in NZ) and instead of just one box we got 3 large plastic containers that came together in one packet - totalling 300 bandaids! That should keep us going for 3-5 years.........providing Ashton doesn't do this with them:

Look below at the size of this shampoo and conditioner we brought back...I still can't get over how big they are!!!! Amazing as they are, I don't actually like this size because the kids waste it, I end up using way more shampoo than I need and the bottle doesn't fit in the shower caddy. But, the good thing about it is that I can use it to keep refilling our normal shampoo bottle whenever we run out.

Onto 'This Week'...

This week Hayden’s class spent a whole day at the beach. They built sandcastles, played a few games of cricket and rugby and had fun on the playground and flying fox. Hayden had the best time and told me he wished every day could be like that. I thought it was a great idea that the teachers let the kids take a day off from learning to have a day of fun (the teachers probably thought it was a great idea they got a day off from teaching too!)

We went to an air show on Saturday. It was a good show, although not quite as spectacular as the one we went to in San Diego a few years back. Poor Ashton got diarrhoea while we were there. One of the worst experiences while you have little kids is having to take them into those horrible, disgusting, dirty, germy, very smelly, incredibly warm and stuffy port-a-loo’s - I will say no more. When the air show was over we got in our car to leave, but soon realized we couldn’t go anywhere because there were 60,000 people wanting to leave at the same time with only ONE exit to get out of. We were stuck in our car for 2 hours! Fortunately, parking was on the grass so everyone got out and hung around their car – most kids were sitting on top of their car or climbing in and out of the windows to fill in time. Ashton started playing on the grass with Hayden, but then his diarrhoea came back. He had no control over it and before he knew it poop started running all down his legs and dropping in blobs on the grass. What a job trying to get his pants off and clean him up with a packet of wipes....I didn't just need water, I needed a hose! Fortunately, Ashton wasn't embarrassed by his accident and he was playing again 20 minutes later.

Below is a photo of Ashton playing during the week. It’s his own representation of the battle he learned about from the movie they showed at Pearl Harbour. He set the whole thing up on his own. I really love this photo of him. Not only does he look really cute, but this photo says so much about Ashton. Ever since he was two years old he has meticulously lined up all his toys when playing with them. The photo also shows some of his personality in that he's very particular about the way he does things. He frequently takes time and extra caution to make sure his clothes are laid or folded exactly the way he wants them, that his bed is made exactly the way he wants, that his soft toys are lined up or in some kind of a pattern. Everything he does has some kind of organization to it and he persists until he satisfied with what he's done! He thinks about everything, making sure that there's some kind of connection flowing from one object or thing to the other. I'm not sure what all these personality traits mean, but one things for sure,....he doesn't get the 'attention to detail' trait from his daddy!!! he he

The hardest thing about having three active little boys is that they always want to be doing something...ALWAYS! Even when Tony and I want to take a little cat nap on the couch in the afternoon it ends being impossible because they will either start destroying the house or getting up to no good!!!! So it's always safer to simply stay awake!! We often find it amusing how we can look at their little faces and almost see their brains ticking over with what to do next! Nevertheless, sometimes they are very creative and come up with some good ideas. Over the weekend they noticed a couple of empty cardboard boxes in the garage and decided to make birdhouses out of them. Hayden painted his birdfeeder blue and wrote on the outside 'I love my bird house'. He broke up some bread to put in it and added a piece of left over toast from Tony's breakfast.

Ashton put some bunnies next to his bird house so that the birdies would get excited and say "Oh it's Easter time!" He also found a little sticker to put next to the bunnies to show that he had an American birdhouse.He carefully placed some bread inside the box with a little Easter straw and then carefully placed a hotcross bun and an easter egg next to each other. He also had me help him cut a door in his box so that the birdies could leave to get some water from the big green bucket. Way to go Ashton.

Christopher is similar to Ashton re lining things up in order etc. Anohter example is that DVDs have to be put in the right way up before the door can be closed-the picture I mean. Not quite into the clothes or bed thing yet but at least Ashton seems very tidy! Helps you alot!
