Ashton was the first one awake this morning, and first one in the shower as usual.
Earlier this week he begged me for the day off school so I agreed.
Sure enough the school contacted me late morning, wanting a reason for his absence, so I said he had a stomach ache. Then the lady in charge of absentees messaged me saying, "Oh, sorry to hear Ashton has a stomach ache on his birthday!" Lol, I didn't expect her to know it was his birthday, but I'm sure she figured out the real reason he wasn't at school.
Just before breakfast Ashton opened his birthday gift from me and Tony. He got an iPhone 6 (Tony's old work phone) and was really happy with it. He's so excited to have a really cool phone, and one that he can use his beats with to listen to music. Even though it's Tony's 'old' phone, it's in awesome condition....and hey, it's an iPhone, how lucky is that!
Next, Ashton came in the car with me to drop Noah and Juliet at school. Then we headed to the Vodafone shop so I could get Ashton credit and add him to my phone account. As these things often do, it took way longer than expected, and we were still at Vodafone almost an hour later.
Next, Ashton got his haircut at his favourite Barber shop 'Exclusive Cuts'. We discovered this great Barber shop at the beginning of the year, and Ashton likes it so much he won't go anywhere else. The 3 guys do an awesome job with his hair, and they even shave his sideburns, neck and moustache. Ashton looks so clean cut, smart and handsome when he leaves. When we went to pay today, the barber said the haircut was on him for his birthday. That put a smile on both of our faces, we were both pretty stoked!
Then we headed off to Nana and Peter's. Nana was working so Peter took Ashton (and me) out to lunch at the Garden Centre in Silverdale. The cafe has such delicious food. We sat outside under a big umbrella, and Ashton enjoyed a hot chocolate and a big breakfast. We had a really nice time with Peter, and enjoyed looking at some plants afterwards.
Then, I took Ashton to the cheesecake shop for his favourite dessert. He sat in the car eating passionfruit cheesecake while I got petrol, picked up some avocados and went to bakers delight for bread. We finally made it home just after 2pm. Ashton spent the afternoon getting to know his phone and gaming for awhile.
After I picked up Noah and Juliet from school and took Noah to basketball training, and we picked up A WHOLE LOT of KFC on the way home - Ashton's birthday dinner request.
Ashton got a nice phone call from Grandma and received a card from her with some money. He got the coolest card from Nana with more money, and a beautiful National Geographic book on Lions. Hayden also gave Ashton $10, so at the end of the day he ended up with $100.
After dinner, both Ashton and Hayden went to Young Men's. The Leaders had a special evening planned, knowing Ashton was celebrating his birthday and moving up from the Deacons. All the boys went into the city to a cafe called the Chocolate Boutique and were given $10 each to buy whatever dessert they wanted. Guess what Ashton choose...more cheesecake! Ashton said he had a really nice time.
Then to top the day off, Uncle Travis stopped by at 9pm and gave Ashton a massive $50 container of vanilla protein powder which was exactly what Ashton wanted. (He's really into going to the gym at school lately and wants it for after his gym workouts).
Unfortunately, I did not take any photos today, but here is one taken a couple of weeks ago of Ashton making a chocolate dessert. He learned how to make it in food tech at school, and makes it regularly for himself, and any of us if we're feeling like chocolate.
Ashton went to bed tired and happy. And feeling special....which is exactly what he is.
