Goodbye number 8, Hello number 9!
Juliet was soooo excited about her birthday and had LOTS of expectations. More expectations than usual, because she knew she couldn't have a get-together with her friends like she'd been planning for weeks, and she knew she would be at home all day, since we were in lockdown and required to stay home. She'd been planning not just 1, but 2 parties for weeks! Next to Lily's name is says (OFC) meaning OF COURSE!
Juliet accepted her party plans would have to be postponed, but here was a list of her expectations for the day:
*She wanted me to put up her birthday banner and balloons.
*She wanted to help Dad make a pumpkin pie.
*She wanted all 3 of her brothers to spend the day outside so they didn't ruin her day. She didn't want them going into her tent and messing it up like they usually do, nor did she want them popping her balloons, squishing her tummy or hitting her.
*She wanted to be called 'Brooklyn' all day (at the moment that's her favourite name and she insists she will change her name to Brooklyn when she's older). Guess I'll have to order a new birthday banner when she's older!
*She wanted waffles for breakfast, chicken strips for dinner, followed by a banana split for dessert.
*And she wanted Robux and slime, along with lots of other presents.
Before the lockdown started, I didn't think far enough ahead to buy her a present. And the only 2 shops/places that are open during our 4 week lockdown (besides petrol stations) are the supermarkets and the chemists. Fortunately at the chemist, I was able to buy a toothbrush with flashing lights, some berry gummy vitamins and some hair accessories. And in the supermarket, they had one packet left of scented doodle markers, and a slime making kit. Juliet says most of her presents were a bit babyish (after all she's 9 now!) and I totally agree with her, but at least she had things to open.
Below: Ashton and Noah wrapping her gifts. Ashton decided it would be really funny to also wrap some unexpected surprises for her, such as a little tube of body moisturiser and some blemish/pimple cream. Funny thing is, Juliet didn't recognise them as jokes, since all her presents were a little weird this year.
One present Juliet unwrapped was a complete surprise (even to me). Ashton gave her a $50 note from his savings. Ashton is always the most generous and giving in our family, and that just goes to show how much he loves his sister.
In the morning Juliet had a quick chat with Grandma. Grandma always sends a birthday card with some money, but it hadn't arrived yet.
Then she gave Nana a call at work. Nana arranged to drop her a present at the top of our driveway, after her shift at the hospital. During this lockdown you are required to stay in your bubble and not have contact with family and friends. So at 3pm, Juliet went up the driveway in the rain and opened her present, while Nana watched from the car. Juliet got a nice surprise to get DVD's (season 1) of a show she really likes called 'The Bureau Of Magical Things.'
Since Uncle Travis and Laura couldn't come into our lockdown bubble either, they had a zoom meeting with Juliet. She talked their ears off for nearly an hour about all the things she'd been up too. And she had fun showing them new things in her room, the new pancake syrup and new flavoured ice-cream we had in the fridge/freezer..... and all kinds of other funny things we had in the kitchen as treats for the lockdown.
Her day ended with a banana split just as she requested:
Since there is no school during lockdown and all kids are doing on-line learning, Juliet wrote a special note to her class yesterday:
Good morning Rm 9!
I hope you are all staying safe and having lots of fun!
Tomorrow is a special day for me!
It's my birthday tomorrow! I'm really excited and happy.
(my birthday is on Sunday) My mum is making me a
banana split on Sunday. And I'm helping my dad make a pumpkin pie
on Sunday! I love my dad making me pumpkin pie.
All three of my brothers are staying outside for the hole day with a banana
so they don't ruin my birthday. That's what I want them to do, but I still love them!
I don't want them popping my balloons or squishing my tummy or going into my
tent that I made!

Something everyone in our family will always remember about Juliet at this age, is how she loves to sing 'notes' at the top of her lungs, throughout the day and at bedtime. She sings 'ah arhhhh ah arhhhh, over and over - they're high notes that Elsa and Anna's mum sing in Frozen 2, and Juliet is hooked on making the sounds. Her brothers find it super annoying, but it always makes me smile as I know she's happy.
Below, one of Juliet's stories. The kids in her class were told to write a story similar to a you tube clip they watched. The introduction had to be something naughty they actually did (or they could use their imagination and make something up), the middle of the story had to have 3 fibs, and their ending was 'revealing the truth.'
